About this training

This course will assist Early Years Educators, Organisations and Individuals to comply with their legislative requirements and meet duty of care obligations regarding Work, Health and Safety. 

Course duration: 1 hour

Pre-Requisites:  Nil

National Law & Regulations - Section 167 (National Law) 

Meets following National Quality Standards: 

Quality Area 2 - Standard 2.2.1 At all times, reasonable precautions and adequate supervision ensure children are protected from harm and hazard

Quality Area 2 - Standard 2.2.2 Plans to effectively manage incidents and emergencies are developed in consultation with relevant authorities, practised and implemented 

Quality Area 2 - Standard 2.2.3 Management, educators and staff are aware of their roles and responsibilities to identify and respond to every child at risk of abuse or neglect.

Learning Outcomes of this course include:

  • Learners will be able to identify the Safety Legal Framework relevant to their occupation.
  • Learners will be able to explain the relevance of Work, Health and Safety within the National Quality Framework
  • Learners will be able to define and explain a health and safety policy
  • Learners will be able to identify, define and report types of incidents, accidents, injuries and hazards within their work environment.
  • Learners will be able to define manual handling, identify risks and practice safe manual handling techniques.
  • Learners will be able to identify equipment needing risk assessment to maintain a safe environment.
  • Learners will be able to practice effective communication strategies in an emergency.
  • Learners will be able to define and implement safe strategies surrounding office ergonomics.
  • Learners will be able to understand and implement risk management processes.

Course Description:  This short course has been developed for professionals working in the Early Years Education and Care Sector. Professionals when responding to Work, Health and Safety need to be able to decide what should be done to prevent harm and ensuring that the relevant actions are taken and are updated whenever necessary. Health and safety law does not expect all risk to be eliminated but that 'reasonable precautions' are taken and staff are trained and aware of their responsibilities. This course will provide Educators with the explanation, foundation and basic response processes to maintain a safe environment for young children, themselves and other Educators.
