About this training
This course will assist Early Years Educators, Organisations and Individuals to comply with their legislative requirements and meet duty of care obligations regarding Child abuse.
This is the FOURTH level of our Essential Child Protection series.
Course duration: 1.75 hours
Pre-Requisites: Level 1 - Legal & Practical Response to Child Abuse; Level 2 - Building a Protective Environment for Children; Level 3 - Early Intervention to Child Protection
Meets following NQF requirements:
National Law & Regulations - Sections 162A, 167 (National Law) & Regulations 84, 168
- Section 162A - Education and Care Services National Law Act - Persons in day-to-day charge and nominated supervisors to have child protection training
- Section 167 in the Education and Care Services National Law Act requiring every reasonable precaution is taken to protect children from harm (child abuse is non-accidental harm);
- Regulation 84 of the Education and Care Services National Regulations requiring that all staff who work with children at the service are aware of the relevant current child protection law in their State/Territory;
- Regulation 168 of the Education and Care Services National Regulations stating that all services must have written policies and procedures – which includes child protection policies and procedures.

- Refresh of legislation, policies, reporting requirements and National Quality Framework updates relating to child protection (inc relevant State Child Safe Standards);
- What Domestic and Family Violence is;
- Indicators of Domestic and Family Violence;
- Impact of Domestic Violence on families;
- Understanding of the law and various orders associated with State and Federal laws;
- Early Intervention and prevention strategies;
- Recognising environmental factors, identifying issues, applying strategies and making timely referrals;
- Fostering ongoing engagement and communication with parents and children;
- Sharing resources and ideas to promote children’s social and emotional development.
Course Description: Domestic & Family Violence and the Impact on Children is a course focused on the increasing level of Domestic and Family Violence in our community at present. This course explores why people are victims and abusers, the impact- both short term and long term of such violence on children and how we perceive violence as a nation. It will explore the types of domestic violence, the signs, the symptoms and reasons why it is an under reported crime. It will further discuss your role as an Educator in the Early Years sector and ways in which you can help children and families being exposed to this type of violence. Prior to this you will do a refresher component in relation to Child Protection laws, legislation and mandatory reporting conditions, which will also cover when to report and how to report. This is all part of the Child Protection refresher training that is required under Regulation 84 (Education and Care Services National Law Regulations 2011).
